Some people estimate the milk and butter without even pretending to measure. others substitute yogurt or sour cream for some of the other dairy. Still others throw in tuna, turkey, tofu -- even spices. I've even seen people add more cheese.
But some make it just as is.

My roomate doesn't. But he ends up with cheesey noodle soup.
I don't really make macaroni and cheese from a box, and don't plan to make it frequently enough to get a handle on what an appropriate quantity looks like.
Rules were made to be obeyed. I'm just following the lemming in front of me.
Historically, I did a little of each, but now I'm not a cheese-eater (or a butter eater, or a milk drinker.)
Tuna?! That actually sounds good, now that I think about it.
Its a poor man's cheesy tuna casserole.
I'd rather do a real one, but in a pinch...
I've had good luck with tuna; it's kinda hard to go wrong (you may want to add extra creaminess in the form of more milk, cheese, or both). I've also had good luck with tofu -- i recommend frying it first, in chunks or crumbles. But my most common thing is to just add spices (somewhat haphazardly) -- cinnamon, because i put cinnamon in everything, but also cayenne or a little curry powder.
