Comparing vi to emacs isn't fair. Vim is full featured, and like emacs must be installed as an additional package on most distros.

Well, Pico and Nano are the lazy-man's VI (and VIm), and I admit to using Pico all the time. :)
GNU Nano is the bomb, but I would use VI(M) over Emacs any day. I'm still recovering from Emacs related finger RSI.

blimmy the only time I want to mess with meta keys is when using some sort of gui, textmate, or even screen(1).
yes, I'veplayed with pico, nano and a few others. they where lacking. Give me something that's GTD friendly anytime and that my friend imho is vim.
