In the United States, this is a federal felony. If you email someone a death threat, the FBI will be interested in talking to you.
The moral of the story is: Don't send death threats over the Internet. Don't send death threats from your work account. Don't let your husband use your work account to send death threats. Don't let the husband who sent death threats with your work account back on the Internet after he has gotten you fired.

Also, don't send death threats using other means. Sky-writing would be entertaining, but still illegal. Besides, it's kind of already been done in The Wizard of Oz.
"Threatening violence" =/= death threat....
I can threaten to kick you in the shin all day long.... no crime there....
Not necessarily. It could be considered assault if it were a credible threat.
You know, like 'I'll beat you with a stick and rape your wife' sort of violence.
I think most threats of violence are illegal.
I think any threat made over the internet is pretty much automatically of dubious credibility....
Credible is such a slippery concept.
I don't think credibility is relevant to legality.
