JJ: Well, I'm not going to argue any of that, but the only reason I've intentionally listened to any Beatles song more than once was because of The Dark Tower series. I don't care for the Beatles' work and I don't like much of S.K.'s work, but I LOVED TDT. TDT is the only reason I've read more than 1 book that wasn't directly in the series.
Sorry, James, but I honestly believe that Stephen King is a very skilled writer. I can't really explain his crossover into the world of pop culture, though. (Although you can feel free to argue with me for now, as I've been drinking for my Jyne and Vodkyte claims.)
If he didn't have such wide readership, he would be much better respected in smaller circles, I think.
"Can't buy me love", as a teen stuck in some strange land far away from all my friends (summer in Florida, I lived in Québec at the time) and I saw the movie by the same name, over and over and over...
George: I'm with you... I didn't like him at first glance (movies), once I read him he was an immediate fav. I usually run from the popular, but I succumbed to peer pressure and I'm glad I did. He's a good story teller.
I agree the first 4 of TDT series were good. 5 was EH and I just can't make myself read the last one. But he is one of my favorites, because he has some excellent stories. Anyone who is as indiscriminately prolific as SK is going to have some real bombs.
Also the man should not be allowed anywhere anything remotely cinematic, but should leave to others the adaptations of his stories to screen.
SK does leave the adaptations of his books to screen up to other people thats why its always so different. Almost all his books are connected to the Dark Tower in some way or another making them all good. If you haven't read the last book you are really missing out on the big picture.I loved TDT even more once I finished, could probably read it over and over. Finally, I happen to like the Beatles.

I suspect you're older than I.
