Microsoft have 'powned' Novell. Microsoft need only to whisper something in Ron Hovispans ear and it will no doubt fail to exist like a number of microsoft compatible projects have lost support from Novell.

Quite why you would want to use an runtime ms language on linux by choice is also baffling

Why you'd want to use Mono on Linux? Microsoft's .Net documentation is probably the best documentation I've ever seen for anything that runs Linux. Which is kindof sad. And don't even think about claiming that GTK development with C or Python can even compare to the niceities of using C# with MonoDevelop - you can actually get things done, and you get code autocompletion.

@bananasfk: I really don't care about the MS interoperability part at all. I develop primarily using Gtk#. The fact that there is a Gtk# runtime package for Windows giving me immediate portability is just icing on the cake.

As far as I am concerned, Mono is a nice development platform for Linux. Everything else is just nice stuff I can do without.
