Machines don't need a healthy biosphere in which to thrive, therefore us humans present them no threat (since, you know, all we seem to do is screw up the biosphere). I'd say, if anything, machines with consciousness would go a little crazy and call us their Gods or something. Well, that's what humans would do, and humans programmed the machines, right? Not too far-fetched. ;)

We are a threat... even if we're not outright attacking them then we're still competing for the same resources. It would be in the machine's best interest (on a long enough timeline) to kill us off.
