Telling children they need to love Jesus more than their Mommy is wrong.

By 3 XavierAM on March 08, 2007

...as a personal disclaimer, this happened to my brother at Sunday School. He argued with the teacher, was disciplined and went home crying. My mother yelled at the teacher and pastor and never went back.

I had already long since going.

How evil can you be if you spend all your time boffing?

Hey, I was planning on using an evil robot to raise my children - !

Though if she spends any time boffing Cobra Baghdad, I'll activate the self destruct sequence.

if Jesus really is the Son of God, the Unifying Principle of the universe, the One who suffered more than any other entity in all time specifically for each one of us, then yes, He does deserve more love than any human being, even one's mother.
additionally, if you believe the above than telling it to other people is not wrong.
in fact, if you believe the above then not telling it to other people would be wrong

Well, digory, no. If you believe the above, then telling it to other people can still make you a shitty human being, depending on the circumstance. Ex: telling a tightrope walker their spouse is cheating on them while they're 100 feet in the air is an immoral thing to do, even if it is true.

yes, but that is a false analogy, i didn't say that it is always morally right to tell all truths to all people
i did say that if you believe you have found the answer to the big questions, you should tell other people

No, the analogy is dead on. Obviously the moral thing to do is pass that knowledge along. Again, the circumstances and the way that knowledge is passed along is what makes the act of transmitting knowledge immoral.

If you think that the particular circumstance in the claim is acceptable, sure, I disagree with you, but you're entitled to that belief. If you insist on telling me that the circumstance under which you tell someone is always an acceptable circumstance because it's 'the answer to the big questions', I'll continue to tell you you're a jackass.

Jesus was a self righteous asshole, so I have to disagree for that reason alone. Now, if this were about telling kids that they need to love science more than their mommy, I think I'd have to agree.

Get him, Darwin!!!
