Lots of reasons, but mainly a complete lack of usability. It gets the job done if all you need is source control, but the issue tracking systems, forums and file hosting are all buggy, ugly and a real pain in the ass to use.
They've made slight improvements over the years, but the core user stories (which are the most flawed part of the site) haven't changed since it launched.
