Proof by analogy is no proof

"God is like a mountain top with many path leading to it, therefore all religions share the same fundamental truths."

Analogies are fantastic ways to visualise and to help clarify difficult concepts. They cannot and should not be used to 'prove' something. The 'therefore' in the above sentence is what I really object to. Just replacing it with a semicolon would bother me less.
