I know plenty of non-mormons who have gone all body-pure. So while I find the faith quite weird, I don't think their avoidance of caffeine is particularly odd.
Mormons aren't weird about drinking coffee. It's just something they've decided not to do (based on prophetic revelation, FWTW). Mormons are actually quite fine about not drinking coffee (or about not smoking or about not drinking alcoholic beverages).
Other people may think that Mormons not drinking coffee is a weird choice, but that's a different claim.

Don't they sip it through straws?
They don't drink hot caffeinated drinks, some don't drink caffeine at all. For some reason, they don't want to do recreational drugs.
