I don't see a problem with platonic love existing. I'm straight but I can admire and "love" another man. However just becouse I don't ponder sexual relations with that man doesn't mean I don't love him in a platonic way.

If love were biological, you either need to posit that homosexuality is biological in nature (which there currently is a lack of evidence for) or that homosexual love cannot exist (biological desire is to reproduce, homosexual bonds cannot).
Love could be a natural instinct tied to romantic leanings, but I have strong emotional bonds that I could call love with people I am not attracted to. And there is a difference, to me, between being in love and love. The english language lacks an easy differentiation of those concepts.
