Absolutely not! A new install of Gentoo Linux for example takes way less to start up than a new install of Windoze XP, on the same machine.

I had to admit it but start adding services to start, and all the dependencies will start slowing things down.

I've only seen huge improvements in boot time only after using a different init system, like initng before it got bloaty, and the one time i got einit to work proper. sysvinit is just too slow i think.
