Jyters are much more accepting of bad writing when it is clear that the writer is trying their best to write well.

By 10 Rachel on August 21, 2008

As opposed to bad writing where the writer just seems to not care or prefer to deliberately write poorly. Generally if the person either is not a native speaker of the language and admits to having difficulty using the language or the person has a relevant learning disorder (such as dyslexia) then Jyters are more willing to accept mistakes. They may point them out with the intent of letting the person know what the errors are, but they are less likely to be actively annoyed with the writer for making the mistakes.

Disagree anyway, but especially because the wording of the operative phrase is less powerful with each of 3 separate restatements. Two of the restatements are in the description.

In particular: "much more accepting" is stronger than "more willing to accept" which itself is significantly stronger than "less likely to be actively annoyed".

"when it is clear that the writer is trying their best to write well"

I am not sure how this can be clear or not exploited. Until there some evidence about it, I believe that each person acts different about it so not all Jyters are expected to be as accepting as you Rachel.

Here is an interesting thought:
A new claim with the same concept, that doesn't talk about all Jyters but for each Jyter individually.

Going to make it happen!

In my experience, most of the vitriol is directed at those Jyters who, when faced with criticism, respond with such classic phrases as "Spelling doesn't matter on the Internet" and "I'm not writing an English paper."

It's usually pretty easy to tell when someone's making a bona fide attempt at being coherent.

We can do another claim to ask each person their opinion, but this one was intended as the average level of acceptance (also the median level for that matter) will be higher. I think it will be fairly significantly higher, personally.

And Alkanshel is right that usually the lowest levels of acceptance go to those who try to actively encourage bad writing with such statements.

I shouldn't have voted, since "bad writing" means different things to different jyters.
