Tagging seems to work best when done "socially", after the fact. It'd be nice to be able to add tags to existing claims, even if they are made by others.
Agreeing with Vynce - it should be possible to assign tags (and almost everything else) with a value.
To make this useful - each user should have the ability to ignore tags that don't clear their cred thresholds.
I agree that something like what Vynce suggests is the right thing. Otherwise every claim will eventually end up with every tag and it will all be a confusing mush.
It's a terrible idea. That would require a level of responsibility that doesn't exist on the internet. So the feature would be quickly abused wreaking havoc with the way claims are linked together.
I think the jyte programmers were smart to pass on that one.
You can do this on last.fm, and it seems to work fine. Only the top few tags show up. It seems to work well. I'd love to be able to tag a claim as cool.
It's two different models. Jyte is like flickr, only the creator can tag his stuff. In del.icio.us, everyone tags everything. I don't think one is better then the other, but switching models is icky.
Perhaps we would have a middle ground and let jyte users tag their vote?
Flickr actually lets you specify who can add notes and tags to your photos. Default is "your contacts" but it can be set to you, your friends/family, your contacts or any users.
Perhaps Jyte could allow similar control of who is allowed to tag one's claims. I'd personally want to allow any user to tag my claims, but I can imagine an option of "all my contacts, plus anyone with tag police cred of at least 5". :-)
You shouldn't be disagreeing.
Everyone should be able to add tags to any claim, and yes, I agree, user's tags (other than the claimant's) should be visible ONLY to themselves, and no one else.
Maybe a bonus feature of the claimant having "recommended tags" should they come back to edit them later?
tags should be able to be added and taken away by anyone
and it should be easy to undo anyones edit of the tags on a claim

Yes, please. I keep forgetting to tag my own, and watch them sink without a ripple.
a claims tag strength could even then be non-boolean, and based on the relevant creds of taggers.

Agree with Vynce's idea in theory but find it hard to see how it would be implemented properly.

No no no. Don't be touchin' my claim. The tag is as much a part of it as the claim itself (a la Jonathan).
Maybe... separate the user tags from the claimant tags?

Jyte should allow my contacts to add tags to my claims, just like Flickr.
Tags could be something we vote on, like the claim itself.
Please tag this claim whatcouldpossiblygowrong, goodluckwiththat, ronpaul, firstpost, python, zimbabwe, omgponies!!!

Hahah! I love it! Just when I start to think you aren't goofing around, you say something like "wikipedia, which works wounderfully"
Congratulations, my good man. That was quite well played.
wikipedia is aparently as acurate as any print encyclopidia
and is a good source of trustworthy information
