Necessity is the mother of invention/innovation but when you are part of the crowd all of your needs are met for you by those reclusive inventors.

So yes, it is easier, but also less fulfilling.

Except when those inventors are not welcomed into the crowd in the first place.. At which point early adoption happens by those who actually think/investigate/search instead of blindly following the groupthink / zeitgeist.
