It's alright to have seen the movie and not read the book.

You can't read everything. You should, but you can't.

Well, except for _The Neverending Story_. That movie was a travesty.

I remember the first novel I ever read.

what, in general, or Asimov in particular? Asimov you have to read. others, less so. Also, in the case of books written based on the movie, absofreakinglutely. if there are examples of the book coming after the movie but being better I don't know them.

btw, your tags -- "not enough time" probably doesn't need a period on it; the expressed preference on jyte still leans toward singular nouns (keep in mind that tags interact with the cred system, and "movie cred" sounds better to most people than "movies cred"); and I'd consider adding "reading, entertainment, literature, art, derivative work"

I was inspired to make this claim in resonse to Roxanne being pounced on for not having read I, Robot and thinking the three laws came from the movie. I really don't look down upon people who haven't read this book or that. I frequently will tell people they are missing out by not having read the book, any book. But I do not look disparagingly at them.

About the tags. You're most likely spot on correct about my use of tags. I think I should tag better. You *do* raise an interesting question though. If folksonomy is user defined taxonomy, then what rules or guidelines really apply. Or more simply, "can I tag wrongly". Of course I'm assuming correct parsing rules and what not. I realize the goal of tags is to connect, but connect what? Geeks tag differently than jocks who tag differently than comedians. I'm going to think about this for a while.

as a geek and a comedian, i feel your pain. there's much discussion on this around Jyte; sadly, it's not all easy to find.

That was a pretty mild pouncing. And while it's fine to see the movie rather than read the book (in some cases), I think you should at least know where things come from.

But Wyscan, there is so much to know. I only ask that a person not speak too much of something they know too little about. Speaking out of general ignorance should be rewarded with thoughtful responses.

...and yes, you were pretty mild as your yardstick measures.

How does talking about Wyscan's yardstick make you feel?

This is what happens when good people fail to pounce. Evil triumphs. Ewww.

I wonder if anyone who bought, and read, the book after seeing the movie was confused.
