This is related to a more general problem of describing things in a globally unique way. Right now it's implemented for OpenIDs and i-names, but I agree it would be much slicker to point to a URI/FOAF/RDF/XML/JSON object (or whatever makes the most sense; I'm new at this) directly. For one thing, statistical analyses and search could be smarter, and it's a step in the semweb direction, which although it may be an unreachable goal in my lifetime, has benefits at every step along the way.

yeah, but it would be nice to keep the continuity if it said "this claim inspired by linktosomewhere."
