It's not really open-mindedness that I desire from people. It's tolerance. I'm closed minded about many things. I think if everyone where completely open-minded, the catalyst for conversation would die. For me the catalyst of conversation is diversity and tolerance is the safety value.

Well, I have mixed feelings about tolerance inasmuch as tolerance seems to mean different things to different people, particularly in that tolerance is also conflated with acceptance in a lot of people's minds, I think, and also is a bit higher up the value chain of virtue in general than I'd prefer it to be.

That said, I generally agree, I think, and the rest is the subject for future claims!
