It is irritating when people assume vodka can be substituted for gin in a mixed drink

Well, thank you for making me this drink. Now while I hate to be unappreciative, doesn't a gimlet normally have gin in it?

A vodka martini is not a martini

A vodka martini is a Martini, just an evil girlie basterdized version of the drink. Appletinis are not martinis. But inspite of my love for a shaken dirty dry martini, I am still in agreement.

My pet peeve is when they ask if you want a "gin gimlet". Puhleeeeeez... a gimlet by definition is with gin and lime. Nothing else.

Gin != Vodka

I don't think I have ever had anyone make that assumption before.

As for martinis... its irritating when people call something in a martini glass a martini, but that way you know what to expect. What else would you call something that was in a martini glass but not a martini and still have people understand what they are getting?
