The young people (in their 20's) who I meet in work (I am 42), seem to be largely incapable when it comes to writing, but when it comes to talking, they never shut up.
No, Bridey: as you've had the benefit of an Australian education; most of these poor folk have had to do with the good old English comprehensive crap which is significantly more diluted than it was in my day.
Interesting, NB. I notice that I have become more impatient throughout my life as it's pace increases year on year, but I think the quality of my education from 1970 to 1991 was a hell of a lot better than that offered subsequently under New "Labour".
When I was young, we had to fart on our own hands for warmth. If you were lucky, maybe one of your brothers and sisters would come over and fart on you, but that was about all the warmer you’d get. If we had a little leftover gas, our mother would make us share. There weren’t as many farts to go around back in those days as there are now.

I must admit that when I first joined jyte I did put up a claim in the 'teenage' style of writing..
However I soon realized that spelling and grammar is highly valued by jyters on here..
