I meant to say that Ruby and Python would have been as appropriate as Perl.
I call perl from php, while it may not be efficient - it does what i need, and rather than rewriting everything from scatch suits us fine.
Perl is downright cool at geolocation and with the right bits ca generate some fine graphs. Im interested in ruby but ive yet to find a task for it.
I didn't mean to suggest that Ruby and Python would have been more appropriate than perl, only that they would have been as appropriate, if of course you know Ruby or Python.
Or scheme. Or lua. Or...
