If abortion was morally equivalent to murder, no culture or people would be morally superior to Hitler's Germany, or Stalin's Russia.
Birth control through inducing a miscarriage is one of the less repugnant of many and widespread ways of disposing of unwanted children which predate abortion as we now know it.
Given that disposing of unwanted children is a bald (if ugly) fact which spreads across all human culture, we are lucky to be able to safely do so before they achieve consciousness.
Back on topic, it's fortunate that abortion isn't in any way morally equivalent to murder.
No, the claim is saying something useless, (if x then x) and leaves the impression of something I consider false. I'm sure you'll rack up a couple votes without my rewarding your underhanded tactics.
This claim implies some sort of moral absolute that I'm uncomfortable with. Maybe if the claim was "If I considered abortion to be morally equivalent to murder, then I would not consider the USA to be morally superior to Hitler's Germany or Stalin's Russia." I might be more inclined to vote.
Morally equivalent? Meaning walking, breathing, men, women and children are equal to fetus. Jury still out on that one. Also, is there more morality in committing genocide?
Also, abortion is the alternative to infanticide. People forget that, but societies that didn't have abortions tended to have a lot of infanticide. It was necessary to minimize the suffering that comes from unchecked reproduction. Where do you think stories like Hansel and Gretel come from?
Anyhow, murder is not equivalent to murder and torture. And murder to prevent starvation and suffering is not equivalent to murder to destroy people who have beliefs you disagree with.

well in that case you ought to agree to my claim
