For instance, tonight I called ahead for Thai food. I picked it up, paid the guy...there was almost no real interaction. I tipped. I tip because there's a line on the receipt and I'm terrified of not tipping when I should. I tip because I get tips.
I have NO idea if this is normal or not. Hence the jyte claim, to find out.

I tip for takeout sometimes. I don't think I have a logical or consistent system though, but the following are mostly true:
I tip well (often >20%) at coffee places, especially if I am using their WiFi for a while and I'm a repeat customer.
When I tip other places, I typically tip 10% or less.
I tend to tip least well at family run places (which is really kind of lame).
i tip for takeout sometimes -- i tipped at my pizza place this last time because (a) they met their time estimate despite being busy (b) they are always very friendly to me.
i didn't tip as much as i would have for full-service dining. I don't consider takeout to be a tip-required situation; i tip when i feel like it's warranted.
i prefer not to order food for delivery because i don't feel i should have to tip the driver -- i don't think delivery should be a tipping industry -- but i know they don't get paid enough to be a decent job if i don't.
that said, i order a lot of delivery, just because it's so damn convenient.
Tipping goes like this for me:
Good server > mediocre server or delivery person > lousy server > pick-up.
