MSN and AIM both have a slew of current friends on them...but YIM and ICQ, generally, are both for old friends who may decide to resurface.
If it were not for Ben, I wouldn't have GIM. Brat.
I don't maintain anything but a cell phone. I have no problems with making folk who wanna IM me wait for me to check my email. Well, I didn't before somebody started bitching, at least.

I am not backwards compatible.
Well, that and my phone has a dizzying selection of AIM or Yahoo.
Mine has AIM, Yahoo!, and MSN/Live/whatevertheywannacallitnow.
I'm with MattJ when it comes to 'legacy friends'. That's quite a concept!
