I dislike cordless keyboards and mice

By 4 Chronos Tachyon on October 14, 2007

Imagine my dismay when I recently decided to upgrade to an optical mouse, and very nearly all the optical mice on display were cordless.

Points against cordless peripherals:

  • Batteries: requires charging, maintenance, and proper disposal
  • Synchronization: Most cordless peripherals make pairing into a black art
  • Insecurity: most cordless peripherals use little to no encryption and are highly sniffable

Points for cordless peripherals:

  • No cord

I boggle every time yet another friend or family member buys a new cordless peripheral. "Were you planning on using the keyboard/mouse from the bathroom?"

theres also plenty of power from the psu for a 5 volt signal to the mouse so the battery idea is a bit retarded

I have to agree just because my first and last wireless mouse give me a really bad experience.

I have a logitech wireless pointer: it's been very good. I had a cute little cheap one before that: it made big problems.

I have rechargables for mine and they last OK, even given that it's a laser and not an LED type.
