I believe that raising a child to do and be good is entirely possible without the framework of organized religion.

I believe that it is entirely possible, but believe that religion does provide a good framework for a child as well as adults.

Absolutely possible. In fact that's how I plan to raise my children.

The way you phrased that makes it seem like we're voting on weather _you_ believe it. ;)

But, aside from that, I think it's much easier to teach ethics apart from religion. That way you don't have to constantly work against all it's unethical aspects.

Faith is about ones relationship with God and a recognition that we are not "good" but human. So, not sure how I'd answer this one! ;-) I love my kids - but - I'd call them human, not "good!"

Jesus came to shut down the religious system. We thanked him by starting a new religion. Christianity has a lousy track record, with inquisitions, witch burnings, crusades etc. History is full of people who doesn't get the teachings of Christ right. Don't judge Jesus by his following. Religion is bad. Jesus is good.

Joel: If we didn't have religious differences to kill each other over, we'd soon find something else like football teams, oil, money, race. Sadly we are tribal and spend most of our time bonding by attacking 'the other' tribe.

Good catch. Since this is an opinion poll, it really depends on your personal definition of good, doesn't it?

I don't think it's possible at all.

It is possible but the framework of religion is not a negative thing and can be used effectively.

Did Jesus come to make bad people good, or did he come to make spiritually dead people alive?

Is anything less than perfection, good enough?

Without the Jewish Moral Law how would we even know how spiritually dead we are? What is the standard? How would we know?

Is there a plumb line?
