Google has an open single sign on API for google apps for domains, I've been considering adapting some existing OpenID libraries to work for this purpose.
How on earth would allowing openid make it easier for bots to get gmail addresses? They'd still have to register for a gmail address (just like now) and go through whatever anti-bot mechanisms google has in place (just like now).
I'm truly at a loss to see how supporting openid would make it any easier than it already is. It would make it easier (for humans) to *sign in* to gmail, but it doesn't really change how you *sign up* for gmail.

Yeah Google! Make with the OpenID support already! :)
It seems like with OpenID support for gmail it would be a lot easier for bots to get gmail addresses.
I don't say this should happen for Gmail but it'd definetely be great for apps like Google Docs and Google Reader
