Spanking isn't necessarily the best solution, but it isn't necessarily bad. There is a valid argument that any spanking is abuse, which I don't buy. If the parent is angry or aggressive, it isn't a good idea, but isolation doesn't work on every child, increased chores doesn't necessarily work and sends a poor message as well (work is not supposed to be rewarding) and reduction in privileges doesn't work at a young age.
