Millions of people will potentially play very stupid and boring games. The fact that millions of people play the games says nothing about their quality or coolness.
When I was a child, I played a board game called Curious George. I enjoyed it for its aesthetic qualities, even though it was a pure luck game. Much as many children play Candyland.
However, millions of children playing that game will not make it cool or interesting.
they are both good games. they are both interesting games. they are both cool games. but millions of people play dozens of crappy games -- the fact that millions of people find them worth playing doesn't make them worth playing, so even if we stipulate that millions of people find them interesting or cool -- which i do not necessarily believe -- the syllogism is false.
really? was that the point of the claim? wow, reading my comment you'd think the point of the claim was that millions of people playing the game indicated that the game was interesting or cool. weird.
all over jyte i am expected to vote based on whether *i* consider something to be interesting or cool. I do not consider evidence that millions of people play the game to be evidence that I will find the game interesting or cool.
I also do not consider it evidence that the game really *is* interesting or cool on some more objective level -- for instance, millions of people play tic-tac-toe, but from a mathematical standpoint, it's clearly crap -- neither interesting nor cool.
amazing how my vote works on two levels, isn't it?
your argument seems to be that what you meant was that obviously many people *think* chess and go are interesting or cool -- but if that's what you meant, then you should have claimed it.
(even then, i'm not sure i agree. i think millions of people do hundreds of things ostensibly for fun that they don't think are interesting or cool because they either feel they should or have not really assessed their options.)

Arguing about which is cooler is stupid, and a tremendous waste of time! -LD
I've always played chess and have never heard of the game Go.. so the choice is not a hard one to make..

@Rachel: The claim says nothing about the "quality" of the games: it can be true if they are "interesting" OR "cool".
Millions of people find both chess and go interesting.
Your remark smacks of elitism. -LD
I am an elitist.

The characteristic ‘interesting’, as applied to specific objects or activities, is variable over time: what is interesting to a person as a child may no longer be interesting to them as an adult."Your remark smacks of elitism."
Hi, this is my friend Rachel. Have you met her?
This claim smacks of clouded thinking:
"Arguing about which is cooler is stupid, and a tremendous waste of time!"
Irony, thy name is Jyte.

No, but she admitted that she's an elitist. Apparently, my comment was bang on.
Yes, I don't see anything wrong with elitism. I also discriminate. I try to judge some things better and some things worse.
Also, most of it ought to be better.

Those 'crappy' games are interesting or cool to the millions who play them. That is the point of the claim.
There are obviously plenty of individuals on jyte who are ready and willing to be the sole arbiters of what is interesting or cool.

I did claim that, Vynce. You just didn't get it.
no, you didn't. you claimed that they *were* interesting or cool. you may believe that that's the same thing.

English, Motherfucker: Do you speak it?
In other words: "No you didn't." Stop blaming others for your illiterate ways.

There is no ‘objective’ measure of what is interesting or cool.*
