The help page is not very easy visible.
Maybe a short feature tour at the Startpage would be nice.
Really a thing like a sandbox where a beginner could try out the functions without effect would be good, because the only way to take back stoopid claims and accidential votes is to delete the account.
And because all claims, votes and profile info fly out to the net without registration need, some might have reservations about claiming or voting (depends if you want a serious or fun reputation).
Spy is a good feature for learning what´s going on here, but it´s not very visible too.
Maybe if a beginner signs up, there should be some hints on his Home Page what to do first...
You can get into the whole thing by spending lots of time, but most beginners won´t do that...
A little faq built by claims would be a nice meta use of the system.
The whole cred thing is like an infocom text adventure, but that makes it interesting on the other hand.
Otherwise jyte is highly addictive, because of the simplicity... :)
You also may find the "culture" tag helpful, but it's also got unrelated claims about general culture.
Some of your suggestions are interesting and may be good. You might want to consider claiming them, especially with the jyte tag, and see if the developers like them.
I was up and running in a day. On day two, I read Rachel's guide, and I feel like I am pretty much up to speed.
Honestly, I didn't find the learning curve to be all that steep. Admittedly, I've still got more to learn, but I felt comfortable here after a very short time.
This is a common concern. The solution, barring distracting the nice folks at JanRain, is to build a solid community who will kindly point obvious new users in the right direction.
Sadly, I don't have a good example of this behavior to link to. Also, the linked claim is inaccurate in that whilst commenting upon it I was under the assumption claims with votes on them, but not commented upon, could be detracted. Right now, AFAIK, a vote on a claim makes it undetractable. Anybody interested in 'docent' cred?

Do you think it could be made easier? What do you think beginners need to know?

I wrote up something that, among other things, links to several helpful claims. You can find a link to it here:

I´m speaking not for myself - more as an advocate for beginners, except for the last two statements.

Yes. Actually, I'm interested in all of the cred I can get my grubby little paws on.
I spawned the docent cred. Just gettin my props :)
