Extremists on both sides are generally irrational and dismissive, participating in a grand groupthink experiment that necessitates that they denigrate anyone that disagrees with their views, however insane and delusional said views happen to be.
Hell, it may even be a strictly-more-annoying-than rather than simply 'as annoying as', because I like to think of myself as somewhat liberal, and watching trash ruin the image of what a liberal stands for depresses me.

I only disagree because I don't want to get on board with the "potentially more annoying" part - I really find nothing more aggravating that the far right televangelists.

Arguably, the far-right atheists are almost as bad, but I admit they cannot surpass the televangelists.
