I'm not sure how it's better... I do tend to like fantasy better.
I plan on reading the Little House books to my kids and they are on the line between fiction and nonfiction. I think it's good for kids to know about how things use to be.

non-fiction is great, but if something is fiction it should clearly announce the fact all through it self not go around trying to look "real"
