Evolution is the mechanism by which Intelligent Design functions.

By 1 Cyberguy on May 19, 2007

My take on this little old argument. Basically, Intelligent design says WHY life exists, but not HOW. The Theory of Evolution states HOW life came to be, but not WHY. So, it makes sense to me that such an infinitely wise deity as could carry out Intelligent Design would use Evolution to do it.

And, yes. I did just combine science and religion into the same exact thing. No, I am not an Aetheist.

I'm not an atheist either. But I can't agree. Intelligent Design is not about saying there is or is not a maker. It's about saying there is a meddling maker. And that is just infeasible if you accept what we know about physics.

I don't believe in the Theory of Evolution, but I do believe at least a small amount of evolution must have been involved in the process of intelligent creation.

Intelligent Design makes specific (if untestable) claims, and one of those claims is that evolution does not occur. It would not otherwise suit its purpose, which is to provide a rallying point for a political movement.

What you're looking for is called "theistic evolution", and has nothing to do with ID.

+1 w/ DA

Even the proponents of intelligent design don't believe this. Their argument of "irreducible complexity" says that things that are attributed to evolution must have been designed instead, because they couldn't evolve; they say the intermediate steps are each useless, only the whole thing is useful, and such a scenario would not lead to something being produced by evolution

Man, it's pretty fucking sad when you even get the pseudoscientific religious bullshit theory wrong

ID defines itself by how many holes it can find in science. Where else in life is that acceptable? If you can't tell me how _that_ pencil got on _that_ desk, does it make my argument that it was put there by aliens any more valid? Yet I'm supposed to listen to someone tell me that because we don't have a billion-year, balls-accurate roadmap for the exact evolution of a flagellum, that it has to have been assembled by Superman?

The purpose of Intelligent Design is to discredit evolution. By the way, I do believe in God, but anyone who doesn't believe in evolution is ignorant. Not, necessarily stupid, but definitely ignorant.

The real agenda of the originators of Intelligent Design pseudotheory is to weaken the common person's intolerance of irrational nonsense unsupported by evidence, in order to crush intellectual thought and render the masses more vulnerable to propaganda. It is not a Christian agenda, but a totalitarian one.

Secular science and the Biblical God (creationism) are diametrically opposed to each other. Anyone who claims that God and Evolution can peacefully coexist either doesn't understand Evolution or doesn't believe what God says about Himself.

But with no more clarity, or any more compelling arguments. Still waiting for your response on that claim.
