I'm fairly certain Wikipedia is mistaken, or is saying times we went to the moon. We did several trips around the moon and orbited the moon a few times, but to the best of my knowledge there was only one moonwalk.
I personally remember the last two moon landings. I was too young to remember the first 4. I'm kindof surprised that some of you (cobra) who are normally very reliable missed this simple historical fact.

I'm embarrassed to say I don't know.

I'm not that old.
I don't think you are either D'Arch.
As a hint, the moonwalk happened during the Nixon Administration.
you say "the" as if there were only one.
There has only been one. The Russians haven't done a moon-walk yet.
If there has been only one, then I sure wasn't alive. Part of my embarrassment was rooted in not knowing if there had been other moon walks.

Wikipedia disagrees with you, claiming that Americans have done it 14 times, from July 21, 1969 (UTC) to December 14, 1972.

An antidote for those who need it:
The mission information for Apollo 17 includes the tidbit that Eugene A. Cernan was the last man to walk on the moon on December 14, 1972.
There have been six manned missions that included lunar landings. 12 American astronauts have made the walk (apparently 3 of them more than once).
My bad.
There were multiple, all were during the Nixon administration.
Patrick: that's way beyond the scope of this website.
