My neighbour has her washing out almost permanently. Alas, she doesn't jyte so we can't ask her views on whether washing that is wetter when it comes off the line than when it went on is somehow better.
I know it uses a bunch of electricity, but the dryer makes my clothes so nice and soft... Plus I would never be able to do laundry in the wintertime without a dryer, since it rains for months on end here.
Drying outside is better if it is practical and feasible for a whole bunch of possible reasons. Drying inside without a dryer on a rack is also really great, and I find much easier than drying outside (but then, I find going outside to generally be painful). But sometimes you have reason to use a dryer. I find I do quite often.

Not if it's raining.

I find dried outside to be much nicer. But then I don't have a dryer. My parents had one though, when I was a kid.
Maybe they're much better than they used to be.
