Giving "negative" cred to trolls boosts their cred and takes a little bit away from your own. Cred should be a positive for positive things that you earn though work or friendship.
While I agree with this claim, I can't help but wonder if this is ultimately a flaw in how Jyte's cred works in that it encourages people to screw it up by not offering a "negative cred" feature.
Though of course negative cred would have social consequences and shouldn't be added without a lot of consideration.
A sticky issue indeed. It would be very helpful to have some way to tag trolls as such without giving them cred. Perhaps somehow tying the killfile/ignore suggestion to the user's total cred score? Or a tag that saus "ignored by n users"?
I think that disagreeing is an essential feature. Feeding trolls is a bad idea, but so is slathering cred on celebrities or voting for things because they're popular.

All cred is positive?
Sam: Yes.
Cred should be balanced with a "slur" option.
Its interesting, if you notice that the people who disagreed seem to have a LOT less cred than the people who agreed.
