We need declarative programming to handle our multicore processors. REST is a declarative distribution model, and it scales and interoperates very well. Declarative programs are much shorter and quicker to implement.

It's more fun to say 'Make it so' than 'it is so'.
But I like the idea of using a REST-type service instead of a SOAP service. Rather simple and elegant.
This statement might be true in a narrow domain of scripting languages, but it is not true in the domain of general programming.
