"char" is pronounced like the beginning of "charcoal", not like beginning of "character"

I don't feel strongly either way, but I've always pronounced it like the beginning of "character", because that's what it is.

I pronounce it as [kɛɹ] (like "care").

I generally think that people who pronounce it like charcoal are idiots.

I vote for "car". But there is so much discussion on the "right" way to say it, I'm not going to correct someone who says "char".

Now that I think about it, I think I always just say 'character.'
