Bulldogs are ugly and high maintenance because of their squished faces and skin folds.
Are you thinking, perhaps, of pitbulls, which can be really sweet dogs, but are often owned by young men compensating for their small testiticles, and young women who love the idea of taming a "dangerous beast" more than they actually love doing it?
I think that if an animal has been selectively bred for aggression, you have an animal with a greater propensity for danger. Are there great Pitt's? Sure, but I personally don't like'em (plus I've now seen Pitt attacks twice). I think they should be illegal.
Bulldogs are fine. Pitbulls ARE dangerous as they were bred to fight and are responsible for the largest number of casualties. See http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/duip/dogbreeds.pdf
Not Listed: Did you look closely at those statistics? They were pitpull "types". Pitbulls are one of the most commonly misidentified breeds of dogs. There is not evidence that True pitbulls are any more dangerous than other breeds. By being misinformed and ignorant you are only adding to the myth. Keep plugging at your research.
The actual breeds that tend to be lumped under the "pit bull" heading are American Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
Additionally pit bulls have not historically been bred to be "killing machines"--they were originally created as pest control, and later used in dog fighting.
This does NOT make them naturally aggressive toward humans. The problem is that a) people don't train their dogs, and b) the media jumps ALL OVER pit bull attacks. Public paranoia due to misinformation is ugly in any situation.
I will tell you this though: I can say with extreme confidence that, had the same dogs in the dog attacks been trained properly and given proper attention, that the majority of them would have been wonderful pets. Instead they were killed because of irresponsible owners.
People who say certain animals should be put down have a certain smell when they see such animals (or animals they believe belong to the alleged category).
People who smell like fear and hate tend (I didn't say should) to get chewed a bit (at least nibbled at the edges).
A dog's upbringing is more responsible for aggression than its breed. My neighbors have a pit bull that is an absolute sweetheart. My Grandmother had a psycho killer Yorkie from hell.
Bulldogs are ugly, but not dangerous. I think they shouldn't be bred since; they cannot breed naturally, they cannot birth naturally, they have severe breathing difficulties due to the way people have bred them to look.
Bulldogs are a human experiment in dog breeding that has gone horribly wrong.

I assume you mean Pit Bulls and not traditional bulldogs?
Pit Bulls can actually make great pets if they are trained correctly and not kept as "dangerous, killing machines"
Also, Bulldogs are not dangerous at all.
If raised properly, they're not mean or dangerous.

This is absurd.

I blame the parents.

Jaime Stevens has it right. They are not born with the kind of aggresion we often associate them with.
