In Pakistan, a Christian man is currently sentenced to death over making a 'derogatory' remark about the prophet Mohammed. This is absurd. If he had made a 'derogatory' remark about Julius Caesar or Paris Hilton, nobody would give a crap. But the concept of 'blasphemy' laws turn otherwise ordinary human beings into unquestionable figures.
Just FYI, Pakistan is a country which the United States sees as a partner in the war on terror - a 'moderate' partner! - even though it engages in acts of evil like executing people for having a theological disagreement with the mainstream.

Yeah New Zealand has a blasphemous libel law that annoys me. The police nor the courts take it seriously, but it's there. Section 123 of the Crimes Act.
Pakistan's government is illegal and tyrannical and has been so since they first came in to power via a coup. The government imprisons political opponents, and arrests judges. Nobody in Pakistan likes that government although they disagree as to why. Some say they pander too much to the west, others say they they are unconstitutional and illegal, and yet others say they are too conservative.
Pakistan isn't the only US ally that doesn't quite measure up to international Human Rights standards. (The US doesn't either, but that's another story).
I'd substitute the word "ethics" for "morality", as per an ongoing discussion on another claim, but otherwise yes. No religion is worth killing people or arresting people over.
the U.S. has laws like these.
