We've had biometric ID since the Cambrian era. Your fingerprints and DNA are everywhere you go, not to mention your physical appearance. I'll agree that it's worrisome if abused, like any potentially powerful new technology. However, weak ID systems favor the underhanded.

Weak ID systems also favor the underdog. If something can be abused, governments (and basically anyone with power) will abuse it.
