This is the article I was looking for when I got sidetracked into the other claims because I couldn't find it.

Bees have a huge impact on both the foods we eat (not just honey, but things like strawberries, cucumbers, and almonds), but also the foods we feed to animals (alfalfa, clover).

While we may not need the more perfect looking results that bees give us, we certainly have use of the increased yield we get from using bees.
