yeah i guess one can donate? most open source stuff ive seen is free though. What if a hundred years into the future nano tech is booming and we can replicate pretty much anything we want, wont that be the next revolution, kicks industry out of the water, and labour will be just lots of you programmer guys.

Err.... you can pay for open source as well. In software we build businesses on supporting open source code; for example companies pay me to install and customize OSS. Other people get paid to distribute it or integrate it with non-OSS software (eg: SUSE).
