A lot of people talk about Americans never leaving the US for travel abroad, but I know plenty of Europeans who have never been outside of the European Union. I consider this equivalent.
The EU is still a relatively new thing, composed of a number of cultures that have within the last century gone to actual brutal wars with each other... this is not so of the US. The shared cultural experiences therefore differ between citizens of these two conglomerates.
I'm not saying that Spain is like Germany (the food for one...). Idaho is not like Hawaii or Boston. Still seems a little too snarky to condemn Americans for not leaving the US if we haven't left the EU. (Of course, my only travel outside of the EU has been to go to the US.)

get lost - Spain is completely different to Germany, sure brands exist but to consider that Germany is like Spain is f**king bonkers.
