A bunch of Americans on a YouTube video are stupid. You could put together a video of similar levels of ignorance in any country. That is not to say that there are no problems with the United States in the education department - but to simply say Americans are stupid based on a video of a small number of Americans is ridiculous.
But still they should know much better than this you call yourself the So called super power and u dont know where a country is and dont know ur friends ?
Patrick showing the facts doesnt make anyone stupid and its fact most Americans are busy in there own lives to know about the so called war on terror and F*** Axis of Evil.
England is not in America you dolt. This just goes to show how stupid Americans are. And you are from Texas which is South America which makes you doubly stupid.
while i hold pretty anti-yankee views, to say they're all stupid says more about the person making the claim.
granted i've met very few yanks i liked, and even fewer that were at all smart is my own experience.
the bit about the brits being part of america was pretty funny though, epseciallyas they're the very people who think ireland is in the UK.
Many of us Americans are stupid. Examples: 1. We are selling our society, culture, standard of living, to the Chinese, when the Chinese have said on different occasions that one day they will destroy America, 2. Americans given too much power to the big corporations which do not care about the issues of local communities and neighborhoods.
Don't ever call anyone a nutjob. You do not know everything. Fact of the matter is that it is true that China has said that we wouldn't want Los Angeles wiped off the map do we? (The dude who said it was promoted) plus we borrow 3 trillion a day.
having fun with your pointless conversation? well, too bad, because i'm going to end it.
According to MENSA, Americans are now the stupidest people in the developed world (thanks to a bad public education system).
IQ's are standardized for every country, so that the average person will always get 100. An American who scored 100 on an American test would score 91 on a British test, 87 on a Japanese test, and 86 on a Swiss one.
If we're stupid, maybe we're spending too much time on web sites like YouTube. You better watch out Asscan, I mean Ehscan. When the Pakistanis start frittering around wasting hours on YouTube, they also may feel their IQs taking a dip. The only thing that really worries me in America is corruption (a problem everywhere, even in a propaganda-free nation like Pakistan, which I NEVER see featured on TV with mobs shouting and waving banners) and debt. Reference China above. Without money we're in trouble. Our average Joe might not be the smartest kid on the block, but he's being trained to carry a gun and kick ass wherever needed by the smartest Joe on the Block whose going to be his commander and make his decisions for him. It only takes one smart player and a handful of plastic to win at Risk. We just have to be able to buy the stuff. Average Joe may also work at a factory run by Smart Joe. Same scenario. It's the business scheme, the work ethic and passionate execution that's going to take the market. You don't need a whole busload of Einsteins to create a Theory of Relativity.
I think this claim loses legs as soon as it hits grad-level education. There's a reason why everyone in the world comes here for their advanced degrees.
That's what else I was thinking. Why the heck was that kid from Pakistan living at the International House at my college? He should've went to school where the smart people are.
Personally, I consider "stupid" to be a term about potential and ability and "ignorant" to be a term about education. If we are, on average, stupider then it is not because of our education. It might be due to poor nutrition, health care, pollutants or other factors that can affect potential, but if it is our education that is a problem then we are ignorant.
General knowledge is important, but a lot of instant recall is lost because we have immediate access to so much information through online resources. It's really a warning to educators, parents and Americans as a whole to really think hard about how we use our technologies and not let go of all traditional learning modes.
@PSpy
Ehh, I don't know if I would call locating the US on a world map instant recall. Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade when defending something. Some Americans are truly stupid.

You couldn't find it on a map anyway, Patrick. So why ask? :)
Maybe many are, maybe not. Certainly a few at least aren't. It's hard to believe though that Americans in general are stupid.
Hm.. Ehsan lives in Pakistan... and yes... Americans are stupid.
What if those americans are the only stupid people in America?
Pakistan, huh? I should have known. You can't trust anyone in South America.
Patrick showing the facts doesnt make anyone stupid and its fact most Americans are busy in there own lives to know about the so called war on terror and F*** Axis of Evil.
Come, come Patrick. It's clearly true. All americans are idiots.
Wait a minute, nic. Isn't England in America? And wouldn't that make you an idiot as well? You may want to reconsider.
Hey Kakura, I sure as hell hope that you don't live in my country.
England is not in America you dolt. This just goes to show how stupid Americans are. And you are from Texas which is South America which makes you doubly stupid.

Can't wait to see you interviewed on the street.
We elected George Bush.
Twice.
The claim is true.
I prefer to think of that as a gratuitous act of comedy.
I think it is a tragedy.
Tragedy and Comedy are just the same side of different coins.

+1 w/ nic with regards to Tragedy and Comedy.

[look out everyone! this nutjob's gonna go on about china all day unless we find an excuse to get away]

who cares
heree is my extremely helpful opinion on this subject: at least we're not _______

By the way. Disagreed. Amongst developed nations we may not have the blue ribbon, but overall we're far from the bottom globally speaking.
this is a stupid claim made by a jackass
what do you expect
That's what else I was thinking. Why the heck was that kid from Pakistan living at the International House at my college? He should've went to school where the smart people are.

@Rachel
Watch the vid. He definitely was equating ignorant with stupid.
But ignorant and stupid are different concepts, so if you are equating them, you shouldn't be.
it says the video is no longer available, what was it? looks like it starred Will Smith (?)
I'm just arguing with the claim, not semantics in general.
It was a video that was circulating a while back about how Americans can't point to other prominent countries on a map, let alone the US.
Reverse that. Can't point to the US on a map, let alone other countries.
lol, amusing.
as long as america's economy keeps booming who cares if kids know where countries are on maps
it could even be argued that the recession makes map skills even less important for kids to learn in a few ways
Well, I'm not gonna go that far. There's a lot of fallacy in what you're saying meta.
How are you going to compete in the world economy when you don't know where the world is?
k
i would say there are better ways that children's education should be measured, of course none of which the US is doing too well in
I'm more inclined to agree with that statement.
never mind, that video wasn't probably seriously trying to measure anything, just for entertainment

No, I'd say that the decline of traditional education is to be expected. Especially with the public school system the way it is.
