Allosaurs brought food to injured members of their pack.

By 4 Eilonwy on June 01, 2007

"Rip Van Allosaur", an incomplete Allosaurus skeleton found at a former allosaur den in Wyoming by a team including Robert Bakker, has a wound in his pelvis, very probably from the tail spike of a Stegosaurid. This wound became infected and created a huge abcess in the bone before (presumably) killing him. This wound progression would have taken weeks, within which he would have been unable to move far or hunt at all, yet he did not die. This is strong evidence that he was cared for and fed by the other allosaurs.

(And no, guys, they didn't eat him when he died, either. No signs of predation on the bones.)

Yeah. Well, Allosaurs, by all accounts, were pretty impressive predators. As I recall we know they hunted in groups and this information about caring for members of the pack is quite humbling. They could have been very smart indeed.

They also probably brought haunches back to the lair for the wee ones. There were lots of cute little allosaur baby teeth shed in the lair, and cute little allosaur teeth marks on gigantic sauropod leg bones, et c.
