I agree in theory, but I think the claim is overly specific. No airlines should allow Mentos on board because they are nasty, not because they are likely to explode.

It doesn't have to endanger the plane or the crew. All you need is a memo that says it does, and mentos scanning hardware becomes tax-deductible
