Like Sarah said, advertising, when done properly, serves the advertiser. It may also serve the audience, but that's not a requirement for "proper" advertisement.

amazing. if you're right, i can't see any reason for you to get so uppitty about google's ad practices.
but i disagree -- advertising will always be as necessary as it is today.
