A handful of cred tags should be reserved keywords, for instance to identify janrain employees.

Or maybe an icon, or some other token. Otherwise a cabal of users could produce an OpenID with janrain cred and spread false information.

I disagree with the headline, since it would pollute the cred namespace. I do think there needs to be a special group or title for JanRain employees, though.

How does reserving a tag pollute the namespace? If anything, narrowing the list of official titles in cred tags would serve to make the whole thing cleaner.

Right now all the cred tags have the same scope, and I'm not sure how tenable that will turn out to be in the long run.

The problem is not that janrainers can't currently be tagged adequately, it's that you're worried about cabals of users subverting the tag system.

This is a general problem, not specific to janrainers. It probably wouldn't be a problem though, because if the real jan rainers claim themselves, they will receive enough jan rain cred to make it very obvious that they, not the low cred sock puppets are the real jan rainers.

You can't stop a cabal from gaining a small amount of cred of any sort, but the system seems like its designed to make sure that the power of a cabal is quite limited.

How about instead, once you get above a certain amount of x cred, you can diminish other peoples x cred (with knock on effect).
